Here’s a roundup of new EMC storage-related products announced Sept. 29 at Oracle OpenWorld.
—New VNXe-based VSPEX Architecture for Oracle 12c: EMC introduced a new VSPEX Proven Architecture package designed specifically for users looking to deploy a virtualized Oracle12c database on EMC’s VNXe technology and vSphere from VMware. Current EMC customers, such as AgroLiquid and Acorda Therapeutics, will be using the new VSPEX solution, the company said.
—EMC XtremIO for Oracle DBAs: EMC announced the results of several internal and external tests that demonstrate how XtremIO, the company’s all-flash array product line, enhances Oracle storage platforms. According to external tests from Principled Technologies, when combined with VMware integrations, DBAs can copy and deploy multiple mixed workload databases on the same array as production for new efficiencies.
—Deeper Integration with Oracle 12c: EMC announced a number of plugins and projects that deepen Oracle 12c integration with EMC arrays. EMC’s Storage Integration for Oracle VM is a plug-in that enables Oracle VM (OVM) to discover and provision EMC VMAX & VNX storage arrays.
EMC and Oracle have also collaborated on an engineering project that enables Oracle Multitenant databases to be created, destroyed and managed using underlying storage snapshot capabilities of VMAX and VNX.
Finally, a joint effort by EMC, Emulex and Oracle has resulted in a new standards-based, end-to-end data integrity solution that mitigates episodes of silent data corruption.
