Cisco + IronPort = Done Deal

The rumor mill is buzzing tonight about an $825 million merger between Cisco and IronPort.

Sources tell eWEEK Security Watch it's a done deal that could be announced before the end of this week.

The deal will give Cisco a major foothold in the gateway messaging security market. IronPort specializes in e-mail and Web security products that provide protection to the U.S. Army, the Navy, some of the largest ISPs and about 20 percent of the Fortune 500.

UPDATE: (Jan 4, 2007; 5:43 AM) The Wall Street Journal has confirmation of the cash-and-stock deal and price tag. Reuters has more.

My colleague Matt Hines has an indepth look at the nitty-gritty of the transaction and what it means for both companies.
